Film, Video, and Animation

The wonderful world of moving motion pictures!

Matt has been long interested in film and video work. In fact, when he grows up, he hopes to be a filmmaker. He has taken several classes in Cleveland, and has made a few short films (although they really aren't worth bragging about).

Below is a website for Robert C. Banks, Matt's film teacher. He is one of the best Cleveland filmmakers and his work is super nifty, plus you can watch it online!

Matt's Film Teacher

Here is a website for The Skanktronics, a Shaker Heights High School band (where Nick and Matt attend). Matt made a music video for them, and you can watch it here (if they haven't moved it). I'd post it on my site if I had room. (Hint- buy comics, bigger website).

Skanktronics

Matt worked on this film shot in Shaker Heights. Read all about it here.

Movie Matt Worked On

Matt has done two short films on 16 mm (real film, not video)! Unfortunately, you can not watch them online, and they will likely never make it outside of Matt's closet because he is terribly embarassed of them. Let's not even mention his early claymation efforts.

Film Recommendations:

Matt Says: Anything by the Coen Brothers (esp. Barton Fink)

Ghost World

Todd Solondz Films (esp. Storytelling)

Wes Anderson Films (esp. Rushmore)

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (And, for that matter, Pee-Wee's Playhouse)

David Lynch (esp. Eraserhead)

John Waters (esp. Cry-Baby)

Jodorowsky (esp. El Topo)

Takashi Miike (esp. Happiness of the Katukuris)

Anything by Russ Meyer (esp. Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!)

Music

Ahh, the sweet sound of... um, something. Nick is certaintly the more musical of the duo (Matt can barely sing in the shower). His mother is a world class cellist. Nick is a very accomplished jazz pianist.

Here is a link to RED, the orchestra Nick's mother helped to found. Stay tuned for news about a possible RED promotional item made with the help of Matt, Nick, and a special guest (Hint - His life has just been made into movie which has been getting rave reviews. he was also the subject of Flame Broiled 3-5).

RED

Nick and Matt have quite similar tastes when it comes to the fine art of listening (although they do have their differences).

Writing

Sorta like comics but without the pictures. Matt enjoys this little exercise and if you bug him enough he might be persuaded to post some stuff on the website, including two pieces which made it into his school literary magazine (Ohhh, Ahhh)!

And I, Nicholas Edward Mercer, also have become fond of writing and if you bug me or just wait a while I will post something on the website...it will be under the page entitled "the Crap that Nick, the kid who can't write good, writes"...well, maybe I'm not that bad, but, well, everyone has their weaknesses, or something...
